The Outdoors

The Wolven Project’s main location is on the VT/NH border in the Upper Valley of Northeastern United States. Colorful seasons dress the terraced fields overlooking the river where the main dog run is located, large enough for even the fastest sighthounds to get up to full speed.

The Indoors

The kennel was designed to replicate the environment of normal living areas while still meeting the sanitation, separation and square footage required to house around 20 large dogs. The indoor space is 1,000 square feet and includes 6-10 kennels (4x4 and 4x8) and around 10 crates of various sizes. The configuration of the space and kennels is flexible and changes to best meet the needs of the dogs. There is a grooming area, feed storage area, a living room, and an office.

Bridget Baker

Wolven Project Founder

Raised on a small hobby farm in rural New Hampshire, my artistic and academic pursuits always found time between the routine of animal care. My first dog at the age of 14 was a mid-content wolfdog, and although I initially planned to breed this wolfdog, I realized the resources and mindset required to care for such an animal was not something many people had or desired. Breeding dogs so few could care for wasn’t something that appealed to me, as much as I adored the unique qualities of my wolfdog, Thyra.

Around this time, the breeder of my wolfdog, David Cunningham, had an accidental litter of Irish Wolfhound wolfdog crosses, which created some of the most beautiful and great-tempered dogs I had ever seen or met. I decided to create my own wolf-like dog with the qualities of an easy companion using these Irish Wolfhound crosses and their descendants bred by Brad Anderson and Buddy Rich as my foundation. Although the dream of creating a versatile companion dog that looks similar to a wolf has been shared by many other breeders and several breed projects, the approach I have taken with the sighthound foundation is unlike anything that has been done before.

In 2017 I decided to begin the project of bringing the Wolven vision to life. I graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2020 with a BS in Genetics and had a large pack of dogs and my first generation of Wolvens on the ground by the end of 2021.
